Love Affair

First of all I want you to know that I see you, I hear you, and I feel you. For those grieving this 2023 holiday season missing your lost loved ones I empathize deeply.

This evening as I was relishing the exquisite childhood taste of these molasses cookies paired with coffee my heart flooded with fond nostalgia.

My beloved biological daughter baked these cookies with love for her family, friends, and neighbors along with banana bread all in between nursing her newborn infant and juggling a variety of other homemaker duties on limited hours of sleep. To say I'm proud of her would be an understatement. I love observing all the things she learned to do and learned NOT to from my examples both positive and negative over the years.

I also find it interesting that she doesn't remember my Mom baking molasses cookies from scratch, a family tradition my older brother continued and I thought she carried onto the next generation. But she claims she discovered her recipe online and doesn't recall having them prior to that.

Either way, that's not the point of this particular post. My love affair with coffee began as a child when my Daddy let me try a few bites of his molasses cookies dunked in hot coffee. He also shared his old fashioned "Taffy" cookies by "Mothers" brand dipped in coffee with me as well. These sensory memories are not only associated with my appreciation of coffee but they also add to the deep adoration I will always hold for my late father and the new admiration I am experiencing with my baby girl.

Love affairs aren't limited to romantic relationships. They come in a wide array of connections. Flowers, oceans, bubble baths, sunsets, dark chocolate, warm soft skin, healing miracles, hugs, coffee & cookies with my Daddy, and many more experiences continue to build my love affair with Jesus.

In addition to all of the above, I also have an ongoing love affair with literature as evidenced here:

And now my love affair with my granddaughter is in full bloom as well...
