If someone were to refer to you as being "Simple" would you be offended by that comment? What if they simply suggested that you enjoy a "Simple Life"... Would that phrase rub you the wrong way? Or perhaps if they used the K.I.S.S. acronym to encourage you to Keep It Super Simple! How would you choose to respond to that comment?
According to Oxford Dictionary, the definitions of the word "Simple" are the following:
1. adjective Easily understood or done; presenting no difficulty.
2. adjective Plain, basic, or uncomplicated in form nature, or design.
3. noun A medicinal herb, or medicine made from one.
ex. "the gatherers of simples"
4. exclamation used to covey something is straightforward.
ex. "I don't overanyalyze. I listen, I like, I buy. Simple!"
Do you try to Keep It [your thoughts, your life] Simple? Or perhaps you interpret that observation/accusation to imply that you are "simple-minded?" This is yet another perception with negative connotations.
The book of Proverbs uses the word "simple" quite a bit, depending on the translation of course; generally not used in a flattering context to be sure.
Where do you stand on this word? Is it a compliment? Or is it an insult according to your perception?
